With warmer weather on the horizon, there are plenty of fun and engaging outdoor activities and programs to enjoy. The family-friendly events below encourage children to stay active, as well as prepare for spring holidays such as Easter and Passover.

March 1^st to March 8^th:

: Holi, or the Color Festival as it’s commonly known, originated in India. On Saturday, March 3^rd, families can learn more about what makes up this well-known holiday at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. During the all-day celebration, parents and children will learn about the Holi story, enjoy Bollywood dance lessons, and feast at the Food Bazaar. The museum is located at 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, and pre-registration is required in order to participate in the day’s events.

Popsicle Stick Tower Challenge: On Saturday mornings, the Skyscraper Museum hosts an immersive program designed to allow children to learn more about architecture, engineering, and the skyscrapers of New York. On March 3^rd, the theme is Popsicle Stick Tower Challenge, where children who are five years old and older will construct their own skyscraper using popsicle sticks, tape, and glue to discover who can build the tallest, yet most durable structure. The Skyscraper Museum is located at 39 Battery Place, in downtown Manhattan.

: The 16^th annual Orchid Show takes place from Saturday, March 3^rd until Sunday, April 22^nd at the New York Botanical Gardens, located at 2900 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx. The program features thousands of orchids, creating a stunning display that celebrates some of the rarest flowers in the world. The exhibit is crafted by Daniel Ost, who has been referred to as “the Picasso of flower arranging.”

: During this interactive 3-hour program, children will start by constructing their own helmets and air tanks using recycled materials to help assist them on their “trip to the moon.” Additionally, participants will learn facts, sing songs, and read stories as means of preparation. At the end, children will discuss what they saw and learned, and craft their own 3D moon. The program will take place on Saturday, March 3^rd at Giocare Playspot, located at 655 6^th Avenue.

: In anticipation of the Academy Awards this weekend, the Museum of the Moving Image will be hosting a screening of the Oscar-winning film Mary Poppins, face painting with Cheeky Chipmunk, and an award show-themed scavenger hunt. Festivities take place on Saturday, March 3^rd, and the venue is located at 36-01 35, Astoria.

: This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing is a play about three sisters that are left behind in a forest by their father, and are forced to find survival on their own. The last performance takes place on Sunday, March 4^th at the Linda Gross Theater, located at 336 West 20^th Street.

: On Thursday, March 8^th, come and celebrate International Women’s Day at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, located at 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn. The all-day festivities feature an exploration of women who fought and led the way for change, a reading of She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton, and craft activities.

March 9^th to March 15^th:

: On Saturday, March 10^th, Tanglewood Marionettes is hosting an interactive workshop demonstrating how to build marionettes and manipulate their movements. It is recommended for children 8-years-old and up. The program will take place at Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Boulevard, Flushing.

: Using songs, dance, and humor, Mammoth Follies explores the age of dinosaurs. It takes place on Saturday, March 10^th at Tribeca Performing Arts Center, located at 199 Chambers Street, New York.

: On Saturday, March 10^th, families can participate in their own mystery adventure to learn more about this springtime animal. : On Sunday, March 11^th, the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center is hosting a program about four very different friends and how they must learn to get along in harmony. The one-hour performance takes place at Alice Tully Hall, at 1941 Broadway, New York. Prior to showtime, there will be a musical instrument petting zoo in the lobby, so make sure to arrive early.

: On Sunday, March 11^th, take a trip to the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island, at 38 Old Country Road, Garden City for a bilingual family jam with Latin Grammy duo 123 Andres. The performance will have the whole family active and engaged.

March 16^th to March 22^nd:

: Designed to draw awareness to the progress and benefits of brain research, Brain Awareness Week takes place from March 12^th to 18^th.  To promote neuroscience, brain-related exhibits, activities, and workshops will be on display at the New York Hall of Science on Friday, March 16^th.
